We’re still in the early stages of cloud-based accounting, but one company has the concept and its execution nailed: Sage Intacct
You’ve undoubtedly worked with financial information in the cloud. Maybe your company uses online banking, has a merchant account or subscribes to a QuickBooks add-on like Method.
These are all cloud-based solutions – services that exist on remote servers instead of your desktop. That’s the first requirement. They’re capable of integrating with compatible applications. That’s the second.
But they’re not comprehensive accounting systems. Sage Intacct is.
Both the desktop version of QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online are terrific applications. They’re customizable. They can be integrated with solutions that extend their basic bookkeeping and reporting capabilities. They’re excellent accounting tools for small businesses, and I’m happy to support the entire Intuit family.
But Intacct goes well beyond QuickBooks’ capabilities in many ways. It would be a good choice for a complex small business or even a larger (midrange) company. Like QuickBooks, Intacct can manage and track your income and expenses, your payroll and taxes and inventory. It provides flexible report templates, contact records and transaction forms. Its work screens are simplified by common interface conventions like drop-down menus, icons and data fields, and it groups related functions together for easy access.
But that’s really where their similarities end. The Intacct solution line consists of numerous modules, individual applications that are built to integrate with one another. You can choose just the services that your company needs and customize them to fit your workflow needs precisely. Your choices include Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Reporting & Dashboards, Order Management and Salesforce Integration.
Subscribing a la Carte
Do you see the difference? If you don’t sell products, you don’t have to subscribe to Inventory Management. Don’t sell services based on time? Don’t buy the Time and Expense Management module.
And you’re not locked into what Intacct itself offers. The company has dozens of partners who have designed Intacct-compatible applications for functions including asset management, CRM, Payroll and Point of Sale.
Intacct not only offers superior integration options and flexibility, but also more sophistication and complexity than QuickBooks. It automates many common processes and gives you extraordinarily in-depth insight on your business. It capably manages the needs of numerous business types, like franchises, health care organizations and wholesale distribution.
Ensure a Smooth Transition
Well-suited for a wide variety of small and midsized companies, Intacct is also a smart choice for public and multi-location enterprises and multinational corporations.
Understandably, a financial solution that offers this kind of power and flexibility requires expert support, especially in the early conversion and training stages. But the rewards – including superior ROI – make it worthy of your serious consideration.
